Fogo de Chão Brazilian Steakhouse
Gaslamp Quarter“Fogo de Chão is the only all-you-can-eat churrascaria in downtown San Diego where roving gauchos actually carve tableside instead of making you work a buffet line.”
**What makes this different:** While most Gaslamp steakhouses stop at serving you a steak, Fogo built an entire operational model around endless parade service. You control the flow with a two-sided disc—green means keep the picanha coming, red means you need a breather. The other spots make you order cuts by the ounce and do math; here, you pay one price ($60-70 range) and the meat circus begins. It's theatrical without being gimmicky, and surprisingly effective at preventing buyer's remorse.
The Market Table (their term for the salad bar) doubles as its own meal if you're not committed to the full rodízio experience—$20 gets you cold cuts, cheeses, fresh salads, and those addictive pão de queijo cheese rolls that show up warm throughout the meal. Smart move for lunch if you've got meetings after and don't want to enter a meat coma.
Service tends to be either exceptional or overwhelmed with no middle ground. When it works, servers like Mike and Lupe turn the experience into something worth celebrating—refilling wine unprompted, explaining cuts you've never heard of, timing the complimentary brulee cheesecake to arrive exactly when you think you can't eat another bite. When it doesn't, you'll sit with your disc flipped to green watching gauchos bypass your table entirely.
The picanha (top sirloin) and fraldinha (bottom sirloin) are the go-to cuts—well-seasoned, brought out frequently, and reliably tender. Skip the chicken unless you're committed to trying everything. The bacon-wrapped filet mignon shows up less often but hits when it does.
**Practical notes:** Reservations are essential for dinner, especially weekends when the Gaslamp tourist traffic peaks. Lunch runs quieter and cheaper. Parking is Gaslamp standard (expensive garages or metered street spots). Expect a 90-minute commitment minimum if you're doing the full rodízio—this isn't a quick-bite situation.

Amazing experience. Lupe did an amazing job. He was competent, truly waited our table, and made us feel so special. He went above and beyond and provided us a complimentary brulee cheesecake, which ended our stay with such a beautiful flavor.. Loved every bit of it. Went here for our 10 year anniversary and it was such a wonderful time. The meats were perfectly cooked and the variety was great. Everything felt very clean. Lupe was kind and always checked on us and refilled our water. I never saw him rest once. Thank you Lupe!

Overall had an awesome dinner. My server Mike came to the table and introduced himself. He was friendly, professional and explained the menu options. Even though he was really busy, he took the time to refill my wine glass and bring me clean plates. I had an awesome dining experience thanks to Mike! Meat was delicious as always. This time I ordered dessert and tried the lava cake. Sooo good. Can't wait to return.

First, I want to be clear, this is not a complaint about the food. The food itself was good, as expected. However, the service was far below what I’ve experienced during prior visits to Fogo. Even though our table cards were turned to green, and there were multiple meat servers circulating the dining room, we did not receive timely service and this was before the dinner rush. One guest at our table was seated in a corner and was barely offered any meat at all because the gauchos simply didn’t stop by. For a birthday dinner totaling around $700, this was incredibly disappointing. When we ordered drinks, they were not brought out promptly. We had to ask a second and third time before receiving them. We also requested queso fresco and waited approximately 20 minutes for it to arrive. That said, I do want to recognize Silvia, a busser who was absolutely amazing. She noticed we needed assistance with plates and drinks and stepped in immediately without us even having to ask. She was attentive, kind, and truly saved the experience from being worse. Leslie, one of the floor managers, also made an effort to assist us and even offered a discount, which we appreciated (though it wasn’t necessary). Her acknowledgment of the situation meant a lot. Unfortunately, when we attempted to get the attention of Humberto, the main manager, as he walked through the dining area multiple times, we were ignored. That added to the frustration, especially once the restaurant became fully busy and we were left relying mainly on Silvia and Leslie for support. I strongly believe that when service is great, the food tastes even better. But when service falls short, it makes it very difficult to justify paying this amount for a special occasion, especially a birthday dinner. Very disappointed, and I truly hope this location improves because past experiences have set a much higher standard.

We've been here before and it was good but some of the meats were dry and not seasoned. This time everything was PREFECT! Fresh meats, very well seasoned and fresh sides and bread kept coming along with the meats. Our Server Jason was the best, very attentive and had a Great attitude. Highly recommend!

We recently went to Fogo de Chão and decided to try the Market Table (salad bar) for about $20. Honestly, it was more than enough food and such a good value. The selection was fresh and delicious — everything from mixed salads to cold pastas, cheeses, and even a charcuterie-style spread with meats and cheeses. I especially enjoyed the lentil soup, which was comforting and flavorful. On top of the Market Table, they also brought out fried bananas, plantains, and mashed potatoes to our table, which was a nice surprise and made the meal feel complete. At one point, the waitress asked if we wanted a shrimp cocktail, which we didn’t realize was extra at first — glad we asked before agreeing. Just a heads up for anyone dining there, some items are additional. We went because we heard about their lunch special ($47 for the full churrasco experience with all the different Brazilian meats), but we were just looking for something lighter and different that day. The $20 Market Table ended up being perfect for us. Great food, generous portions, and definitely worth it if you’re not in the mood for the full experience but still want to enjoy the quality that Fogo de Chão is known for.
