About this spot

Coffee by Malibu Farm is a waterfront cafe in Seaport Village that does coffee and light bites with serious harbor views.

What sets this spot apart from your average Gaslamp coffee joint is the location—right on the water in Seaport Village, with a casual, lounge-style setup that prioritizes the view over the hustle. While most coffee shops in the area are built for laptop warriors or quick caffeine runs, this is more of a sit-back-and-watch-the-boats situation. The outdoor seating puts you right by the harbor, and the indoor couches invite lingering. It's not a grind-it-out workspace (there's literally one outlet), but if you're coming off a waterfront walk or killing time before dinner, it's the move.

The coffee is solid—cortados and lattes are on point, and seasonal offerings like the iced pumpkin latte or the crème brûlée latte lean sweeter but deliver. The banana bread gets consistent love from regulars. Food-wise, the menu skews light: tofu scrambles, scones, and brunch plates that won't weigh you down. It's Malibu Farm's smaller sibling (the full restaurant is upstairs), so expect California-casual health-leaning vibes without the full sit-down commitment.

The crowd is a mix of tourists exploring Seaport Village and locals grabbing a post-beach coffee. Mornings are quieter—early Saturday visits mean you'll actually get a seat with a view. By mid-morning, especially on weekends, the lounge area fills up fast. Service is friendly and unhurried, matching the vibe.

Downsides: It's not cheap for what you're getting, and the menu is limited if you're hungry for a full meal. If you need to plug in and work, look elsewhere. But if you want decent coffee with a harbor backdrop and a reason to slow down for twenty minutes, this spot delivers on that specific promise.

Common questions

FAQ

Is Coffee by Malibu Farm actually a good spot for working on a laptop?
Not really—it's built more for lingering over drinks and conversation than grinding through emails. One outlet by the couch isn't going to cut it if you need reliable power. Go here to sip a crème brûlée latte and watch the water, not to set up camp.
What should I order when I visit?
Start with their cortado or crème brûlée latte (people keep coming back for these), grab the banana bread or a scone, and if you're there for brunch, the tofu scramble is solid. The Iced Pumpkin Latté gets real devotion too, depending on the season.
Is there parking nearby?
You're in Seaport Village, so parking is available in the mall structure, though it can get tight on weekends. Plan for a short walk from the lot to the cafe—it's not a door-right-to-door situation.
When should I go to avoid crowds and actually enjoy the views?
Early Saturday morning is quiet and the ocean light is clean—that's when you get the full payoff of those "beautiful views" everyone raves about. Mornings beat afternoons, especially when the sun's beating down on the waterfront.
Is this kid-friendly or a good brunch spot for groups?
Yes to both. It's tagged as kid-friendly and group-dinner material, with outdoor seating and a casual vibe. Fresh food, nice staff, and views that everyone can appreciate make it a solid family or group brunch move.
Do they have options for dietary preferences like vegan or vegetarian?
They offer a tofu scramble for breakfast, which suggests vegetarian flexibility. For specifics on vegan accommodations or other restrictions, call ahead—reviews don't detail the full scope of their dietary options.
Is this more of a coffee shop or a full restaurant?
It's a hybrid: strong coffee and pastry spot with breakfast, lunch, and dinner service, plus beer and wine. Think elevated cafe with restaurant legs, not a full sit-down place, though they do serve dinner and have dine-in seating.

Nice cafe in Seaport Village which serves an assortment of espresso and various types of ice cream. I recommend their banana bread. They have one outlet next to the couch. More of a lounge and chat cafe than a bring your laptop and work cafe. I would recommend making sure your laptop is fully charged if you plan on working here.

I was traveling around San Diego and walking through Seaport Village when I ended up at Coffee by Malibu Farm. I was exhausted from the strong sun, so I decided to take a break and grab a drink. I got the crème brûlée latte and it was super good! Really smooth, sweet in the right way, and super comforting. The AC was running so the air was nice and cool while the sunlight still came through the windows, which made it feel really cozy and refreshing at the same time. It was the perfect spot to relax and recharge before continuing my day. Would definitely stop by again!
