Atmosphere: 7/10
Located in Pacific Beach, Captain’s Quarters is relatively far from other cocktail bars, making it more of a destination stop. The space commits fully to a captain / sea / ship / pirate theme with kraken decor throughout. The vibe is playful and immersive, drawing a younger crowd. The bar sits in the middle of the room with seating all around—a strong layout choice. Seating options include bar seats, tables, and booths. Music runs on the louder side but remains manageable.
Drinks: 5.5/10
Recommendation: —
Menu structure is clear, but the physical menu quality feels low-end. Drink selection is decent on paper, but execution is underwhelming. Flavor balance is inconsistent: Deep Water lacked balance and leaned artificial, while the Nirvana Negroni was serviceable but forgettable. Presentation is basic overall—average glassware, simple garnish, standard ice, no coasters.
Service: 7/10
Water served on arrival. Friendly and professional team with solid baseline attentiveness. Reservations are recommended during peak hours. Pricing is average for San Diego, but a mandatory 4% service fee is added, followed by an expected 20% minimum tip.

I stopped in on a Tuesday night for a night cap to end my birthday. The bartender made a recommendation for a drink based off things that I enjoy. He heard that I had a sub par old fashioned at Mister A’s and recommended the Ol’ Fashioned Nana Bread drink. This bartender, let me tell you, crafted a 12/10 cocktail that just made my night. This place was the perfect spot to pop in for a night cap at the end of a wonderful birthday.
The holiday ambience right now is fantastic. This place is a hidden gem. Decent prices too. I highly recommend stopping in (make a reservation).
Lovely interior and atmosphere. Upon entering I didn't expect the hidden door, but it's an amazing entrance after all it is a speakeasy. The ambiance really makes you feel like you're in a nautical setting with TV windows displaying aquatic deep ocean landscapes. Everything is on theme and the drinks are made very precise. Only complaint was that the bartender didn't check up too much on us during happy hour but I appreciate them being able to give us drinks 15 past happy hour.
What a fun speakeasy, especially during the fall with the Halloween decor! The highlights are definitely the ambiance and cocktails (gin forward). I agree with some others, it can get a little loud. However, we were there at opening and had most of the surrounding space to ourselves until around 6:00 PM. We took advantage of the happy hour (from 5:00-6:00, half off of cocktails). The cold brew martini and mai tai proved to be excellent choices. Believe it or not the complimentary popcorn was a nice, tasty surprise. I’m a little torn on how to rate the food. Table favorites included the prosciutto and manchego w/ berry jam grilled cheese and the papas bravas w/ garlic aioli. The Brussels sprouts and lamb shawarma were average. I found the portions to be extremely small considering the price, especially the short rib gordita crunch- 3 bite size pieces for $18. Yikes! And lastly, and much to my dismay because dessert is my favorite, the Fools Gold toffee cake dessert was a big disappointment. It was soooo dry and the yogurt did not seem to compliment the cake very well.
I would still return, as the service we received was great and you cannot beat the ambiance. Happy hour is the way to go and if you’re still hungry, you can mosey over to a nearby restaurant.
